Program Overview

SYA Babe Ruth Baseball offers athletes ages 13-18 a fun and competitive baseball experience. With divisions for middle and high school players, our program welcomes athletes of all skill levels for both Spring and Fall seasons.

When does the season start?

Spring: April
Fall: August

Spring: Late June

Fall: Early November

Spring: April

How many times per week are practices?

Practices are held twice a week for all levels.

When do games start?

Spring: Late April

Where will the games be?

Games will be played 1-2x/week at Patriot Park North.

Are there evaluations/tryouts? When?

Yes, Spring: Late March. Fall: Late July.

Will all participants make the team?

Yes, players will be placed on a team depending on league placement and space availability.

Is there a picture day?

No.

Schedules/Calendar

When do I get my child’s schedule?

Approximately two weeks before the start of the season.


Age Limits/Groupings

League Ages
National 13-18 years.
For players not playing high school baseball.
American JV 13-15 yrs.
American Varsity 16-18 yrs.

Spring Season Leagues

National League

[13-15 yrs.]
American League – Varsity Division
[16-18 yrs.]
For players not participating in High School Baseball For travel and JV High School players. The season starts at the end of the High School JV season. For high school varsity players, first-year college students, and any other players aged 16-18 who are interested in playing. The season starts at the end of the High School Varsity’s season.

Fees

A $10.00 Fairfax County Department of Neighborhood and Community Services fee per player will be added to each player’s registration for the season.

An additional $50 out of county fee will be added to each out of county player’s registration fee as per policy of Fairfax County Department of Neighborhood and Community Services.

Families will receive a $15 multi-child discount.

Acceptable Payments Options

The system accepts Visa or MasterCard & online checks (your registration is not FINAL until your check payment is received). You may pay your registration fees, summer skills camp fees, and make donations during online registration. You may register multiple players online as well and receive a multiple player discount.

Scholarship/Financial Aid Info

SYA offers scholarships to all SYA participants of all recreational sports who qualify under the Fairfax County Neighborhood and Community Services program. To learn more about SYA scholarships, click here.

Equipment Requirements

  • Baseball glove
  • Baseball bat (must meet Babe Ruth League regulations linked below)
  • Batting helmet
  • Cleats (plastic/rubber, no metal cleats on turf fields like Patriot Park North)
  • Catcher’s gear (teams may provide a set)
  • Baseball pants, socks, and belt
  • Protective cup (mandatory for all players)
  • Water bottle

Are there equipment rentals?

No.

Where do I get equipment?

SYA recommends Dick’s Sporting Goods or Amazon.

Are uniforms/jerseys provided?

Yes, jerseys will be provided.

Weather Policy

Please check on field status if it has rained in the last 48 hours.

Decisions on field status are generally made by 3:30pm each day Monday-Friday and by 7am on Saturday and Sunday.


Field/Gym Status info can be obtained by:

  • Contacting your coach first and foremost
    [Coaches, check your email the night before game days, to determine whether the school fields and gyms have been closed because of inclement weather, etc. and to alert the members of your team.]

Rules and Policies

Refund Policy:

  • Recreational Season/Camp/Clinic Refunds:  Requests for refunds must be made in writing and received prior to the roster distribution meeting (coaches meeting) or the first regularly scheduled game that the registrant’s team plays, whichever occurs first. The registration fee will be refunded minus $35 administrative fees prior to that date. No fees will be returned after that time

FAQ

When do schedules come out?

Where are the games/practices held?

Fairfax County issues permits to SYA to use facilities in the Centreville/Clifton area. Typically a team will practice at the same facility each week with varying locations for weekend games.

When do I get notified about my child’s coach/practices/games?

Notification of schedules/locations/times will be sent out 1-2 weeks prior to the start of the season (as determined by when we receive permits).

How will I be notified?

Mobile app, email, etc.
