SYA Flag Football is a fast-paced, fun-oriented program that teaches the fundamentals of football in a non-contact environment for both boys and girls, focusing on physical, mental, and emotional development. The program emphasizes sportsmanship, team play, self-discipline, and maximum participation.
When does the season start?
The season begins with Opening Day in April.
When does the season end?
The season ends in June before the school year ends.
When do practices start?
Practices start early to mid-March.
How many times per week are practices?
1-2 per week.
When do games start?
Games start in April. There are no games held on Memorial Day weekend.
Where will the games be?
Games are held on Sundays (6 game season plus playoffs) at Centreville High School and other locations.
Do you need referees?
Yes! SYA is always in need of referees. Great opportunity for high school students to make some extra cash on Sundays or adults looking for a side hustle.
Are there evaluations/tryouts? When?
There are evaluations for grades 2-9, but no evaluations for K/1st grade. Evaluations are typically held in early March.
Will all participants make the team?
Yes, all participants will be placed on a team.
What is a season versus a clinic?
The season consists of regular practices and games, while clinics, such as the Skills Camp, are optional opportunities for additional practice and learning.
Is there a picture day?
Yes, Picture Day is usually scheduled in April.
