Season League Info/Program Overview

Experience co-ed lacrosse across all skill levels.

Our lacrosse coaches love teaching and are passionate about the sport of lacrosse. Our teams feed into the future rosters of Centreville and Westfield High Schools. It’s time to school yourself in your new favorite game!

We participate in the Northern Virginia Youth Lacrosse League (NVYLL) during our Spring season and compete against 24 other local youth lacrosse organizations.

Our Fall season is an instructional clinic, consisting of all skill sessions for all levels and friendly scrimmages.

When does the season start?

Spring: Assessments begin in February and practices begin March 1.

Fall: Sessions being in early September after Labor Day.

When does the season end?

Spring: The season ends prior to Memorial Day with a Championship Weekend.

Fall: Sessions end in early November.

When do practices start?

Spring: Late February/Early March.

Fall: Instructional clinic only.

How many times per week are practices?

Spring: 2-3 nights per week, with each practice lasting about 1.5 hours.

Fall: Instructional clinic is 1x per weekend, lasting about 1.5 hours.

When do games start?

Spring: Games begin 3rd weekend in March.

Where will the games be?

Our home games are held at E.C. Lawrence Park, away games are held at various facilities in the Northern Virginia area.

Are there tryouts/evaluation? When?

Yes, for the spring season, evaluations take place from early February through early March. Fall is clinic style, no evaluations.

Will all participants make the team?

Yes.

Is there a picture day?

Yes in the Spring only.

What is a season versus a clinic?

The Spring season is a competitive season with practices and games, while the fall season is instructional, focusing on skill-building and scrimmages.

Schedules/Calendar

On the heels of player assessments and team selections, kids will play eight games between March and early June in the Northern Virginia Youth Lacrosse League (NVYLL). The Girls play on Sunday and the Boys on Saturday.

All teams will have at least one double-header weekend during the regular season where they will play one game on Saturday and one on Sunday. Ready yourself for the Playoffs and Championship right before Memorial Day weekend.

When do I get my child’s schedule?

Approximately two weeks before the start of the season we will send out game schedules. Practice schedules should be finalized by late February.




Age Limits & Groupings

Boys are grouped by age: Little Scoopers (4-7yrs.) 8U, 10U, 12U, and 14U (14U currently on waitlist).

Girls are grouped by grade: K-2nd, 3rd/4th, 5th/6th, 7th/8th. In the Spring, registration is also open to 9th grade (non-HS athletes).

*A player’s age group is determined by their age on August 31 of the calendar year most recently completed.

Families will receive a $15 multi-child discount.

Acceptable Payments Options

The system accepts Visa or MasterCard & online checks (your registration is not FINAL until your check payment is received). You may pay your registration fees, and make donations during online registration. You may register multiple players online as well and receive a multiple player discount.

Equipment Requirements

· Lacrosse stick – meeting the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS)

· Helmet (must be recertified every two years)

· Shoulder pads (NOCSAE ND200) certified)

· Elbow pads

· Gloves

· Mouthguard (clear mouthguards are not permitted)

· Cleats (rubber only)

· Protective cup (recommended)

Girls’ Equipment

  • Lacrosse stick – meeting the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS)
  • Protective eyewear (NOCSAE ND200 certified)

Are there equipment rentals?

Players can rent helmets, protective eyewear, gloves, shoulder pads, sticks (girls only) and elbow pads from SYA. The fee varies from $20-$50 (girls) and $75 (boys). Spring season equipment issue is February. Fall clinic equipment issue is at the end of August. If you’d like to rent, please out equipment rental form & bring with you to distribution day.

Sticks, mouthguards, cleats, and cups must be purchased. Dick’s Sporting Goods hosts a discount weekend every Spring and we will share info on that when we have it.

Where do I get equipment?

SYA recommends Dick’s Sporting Goods or Sportstop.com for Sticks, mouthguards, cleats, and cups purchases. If you need suggestions or information on equipment, please reach out to us!

Are Uniforms/jerseys provided?

Yes.

Refund Policy

  • Recreational Season/Camp/Clinic Refunds: Requests for refunds must be made in writing and received prior to the roster distribution meeting (coaches meeting) or the first regularly scheduled game that the registrant’s team plays, whichever occurs first. The registration fee will be refunded minus $35 administrative fees prior to that date. No fees will be returned after that time

Safety Policy
All players must wear certified protective equipment, including helmets and shoulder pads ( for boys) and protective eyewear (for girls).

Weather Policy

Please check on field status if it has rained in the last 48 hours.

Decisions on field status are generally made by 3:30pm each day Monday-Friday and by 7am on Saturday and Sunday.


Field/Gym Status info can be obtained by:

    [Coaches, check your email the night before game days, to determine whether the school fields and gyms have been closed because of inclement weather, etc. and to alert the members of your team.]

FAQs

When do schedules come out?

Fairfax County issues permits to SYA to use facilities in the Centreville/Clifton area. Typically a team will practice at the same facility each week with varying locations for weekend games.

When do I get notified about my child’s coach/practices/games?

Notification of schedules/locations/times will be sent out 1-2 weeks prior to start of season (as determined by when we receive permits).

How will I be notified?
