In Summer, athletes will compete in the Loudoun Travel Basketball League and in the Winter, athletes will compete in Fairfax County Youth Basketball League tailored to advanced players preparing for high school play. Tryouts are held to select a limited number of players, ensuring that the program remains competitive.

Attendance at skill evaluations is mandatory for all players from 4th grade and up, with a make-up night available. Failure to attend may result in the player not being placed on a team. Additionally, travel players are not permitted to be registered for house league basketball or other local area travel leagues.

It is the responsibility of each coach to determine whether the school gyms have been closed because of inclement weather, etc. and to alert the members of his/her team. Fairfax County issues permits to SYA to use facilities in the Centreville/Clifton area. Typically a team will practice at the same facility each week with varying locations for weekend games.
