Welcome to SYA Field Hockey Fall Season 2024!

This season practices will be on FRIDAYS at ECL Park #2 - from 6:30-8:00pm

This season we plan to start practices at ECL Park #2 on Friday, August 30, 2024 from 6:30-8:00pm and then at  Westfield High School practice facility (behind the school with track) on Saturday, August 31, 2024 from 8-9:30am followed by another practice on Friday, September 6, 2024 from 6:30-8pm at ECL Park #2.  The season will run through the end of October.  We are always looking for coaches, volunteers and parents to help our program.

The field hockey program regular practices for the season will all take place at Elanor C. Lawrence Park Field #2 on FRIDAYS from 6:30-8:00pm and games on Saturdays based on league scheduling.  The program is open to girls and boys in rising grades 3rd through 8th grades. Players will be grouped by age and ability. The program will include games against other programs in the area and will all be 7v7 contests with goalies being optional.  We will group the kids into age and skills for practices and games.

Equipment needs:

• Field hockey stick.  There are a limited number of  "loaner" sticks available if there is a financial hardship.  Please email commissioner@syafieldhockey.org if you are in need of a stick to borrow.
• Shinguards.  Please wear the ones that cover and protect your ankles!
• Mouthguard - required
• Faceguards - not required but you can purchase if you want at any sporting goods store.  You should get the ones made for Lacrosse Girls programs.

Welcome to our Spring SYA field hockey clinics for 2024! 

Fees are $40 per session - you can register here - www.syasports.org

These sessions are for players from 1st to 8th grade.  Players will be grouped by age.  Clinics will focus on learning/developing the following: stick skills, different types of hits, passing, receiving, 1v1 defending skills, age-appropriate principles of team and off ball movement, and decision making.  Players may also scrimmage as part of the training.  Personal life skills will be modeled by the coaches and nurtured with the players - self confidence, proper communication, respect, work ethic, self-control, enthusiasm, teamwork, and leadership.

Clinics will take place on April 28, May 19, June 2 and June 9 from 1pm-2:30pm at Westfield High School Practice/Track, behind the school. .  You can sign up for one, two, three or all four clinics.  The clinics will be taught by the Westfield and Centreville High School coaches. All skill levels are welcome as are SYA Volunteer coaches.  Please sign up today!

A part of all registration fees will go towards the Westfield and Centreville High School Varsity Field Hockey programs!

Equipment required for the clinics (all equipment is available for purchase at Dick's Sporting Goods)

• Field hockey stick.  All players should bring their own stick.  Please get the appropriate size stick for your child.  The top of the stick should come up to the top of the hip bone.  For younger players you may have to get the smallest size offered.
• Shin guards.  Please wear the ones that cover and protect your ankles!
• Face Shields - optional, but encouraged (especially at younger levels)
• Mouth guard - REQUIRED
