Season League Info/Program Overview

SYA Volleyball Club was formed in 2007 in Northern Centreville, with the goal of providing a high-quality competitive alternative to the more expensive club programs in our area. SYAVBC took a brief break in the early 2020s and restarted in 2024 with a 14u team.  For the 2025-2026 Club Volleyball season, SYAVBC is thrilled to offer teams for the 14u, 15u, and 16u age groups competing in the Chesapeake Region Volleyball Association (CHRVA) of the USA Volleyball governing organization (USAV).

What makes SYA Volleyball Club Special?

SYA Volleyball Club is a 100% volunteer run organization and our coaches and staff are here not because it’s a job, but because it’s a passion.  We believe winning isn’t just a goal, but rather an outcome you achieve by prioritizing the foundational items that make any team/organization perform at their highest levels. We also believe that having fun, working hard and winning all go hand-in-hand. Our coaches treat our teams like family while offering the most competitive and advanced volleyball in the Northern Virginia area. Participants must be USAV members and coaches must be certified.

Volunteer Opportunities

SYA Volleyball is one the largest youth volleyball organizations in Northern Virginia.  Each year, hundreds of young athletes, from grades 4 – 12, compete in our programs.  We provide playing opportunities for beginners all the way to the highest level of competition USAV and AAU provides. Many of the highest performing athletes at the Varsity and Club Volleyball levels have played with SYA and we are looking for more coaches and volleyball enthusiasts to help mentor and lead these young athletes.

With SYA Volleyball Club, you can:

  • Build your coaching resume with almost year-round opportunities at various levels of competition
  • Receive training & mentorship from our experienced coaching staff
  • Coach various skill levels—from beginners to competitive club teams

This opportunity is perfect for:

  • Current/former coaches looking to inspire and lead the next generation of superstars
  • Former HS/college athletes looking to gain experience and build their coaching resumes

As a 100% volunteer organization, our coaches are here to give back to the community and to help these young athletes reach their full potential in the sport we love so much!  That passion and dedication comes through with the level of care our coaches provide our athletes and we are looking for more like minded people who are just as excited as we are to step-up and make a difference in these young athletes lives.

FAQs

What is Club Volleyball?

Club volleyball is a competitive program where players train and compete outside of school teams, often at the highest levels available for juniors volleyball. It provides athletes with opportunities for skill development, tournament play, and exposure to college recruitment. Clubs teams organized by age groups and skill levels, offering structured coaching and travel competition over a 6-7 month season.

What happens if I am offered a place on the team?

You will be given directions on how to affiliate with SYA Sports, and additional tasks and forms. You will be required to read, agree to terms, and sign and return a contract along with the first payment to lock-in your offer. You will then start receiving various emails regarding club information, as well as team-specific information, such as practice and tournament details. From this point forward both players and parents should carefully read all emails from both the club director and coach right away, as some may be time-sensitive.

If I accept a place on the team and then later change my mind or can’t come to practices, can I get my money back?

No. For every player we offer a place, several others were turned down. Once you accept an offer for one of our teams, you are making a financial commitment. Players will be required to register with SYA and make an initial payment within a designated period of time. If you fail to do this, you risk forfeiting your offer.

Do I have to come to all the practices, fitness and strength training sessions, and tournaments?

Yes. When a player and her parents accept an offer to join a team, they are making a commitment not only to the club and the coach, but also to the other players on the team. Players should take this responsibility seriously and make every effort to attend all practices and tournaments. They will be asked to sign a contract and return with their first payment reflecting their commitment. For a player to develop individually, and for a team to develop as a unit, all players should come to practices and tournaments with a positive attitude and willingness to learn and give their best effort.

Does everyone have to become a referee and scorer?

Every team is required to provide work teams throughout the day during tournaments. Viewing these tasks in a positive manner, and taking note of the benefits from them, can make a big difference in the time spent performing the duties. As a referee, scorer, or line judge, you have a close-up view of the teams against which you will be competing. You will also be reinforcing your knowledge of the game and, by extension, improving your own skills by observation of both the good and the bad. Players will be assigned to rotate through the duties as long as they have the required certification. Therefore, all players are expected to complete on-line referee and scorer training, and will receive training & information on doing so from the coaches.
