SYA and CYA have partnered to form a new collaborative Travel Soccer Program, Virginia Valor FC (VAVFC). The creation of VAVFC has been an ongoing project between CYA and SYA. Program Overview

Virginia Valor FC is the path from rec to elite travel soccer complete with training sessions, competitive matches, and the chance to play in regional and national tournaments. Experience high caliber coaches, top-tier facilities, and workshops on nutrition, injury prevention, and college recruitment.

Virginia Valor FC always seeks players with a passion for the game to join our program. Whether new to travel soccer or an experienced player seeking a new challenge, VAVFC welcomes athletes to their annual tryouts.

When does the season start?

Early August

When does the season end?

Ends in June before school ends.

When do practices start?

Practices start in August

How many times per week are practices?

U9-U12: 2 team sessions and 1 Travel Academy session per week (3 total).

U13-U18: 3 team sessions per week during the Fall and Spring.​

When do games start?

Game schedules are determined by the league and typically start soon after practices begin. Specific dates depend on league and tournament schedules.

Where will the games be?

Games are played within the local Northern Virginia region, but some may require up to two hours of travel. Tournaments can be local or may require travel​.

Are there evaluations/tryouts? When?

Tryouts occur in May each year.

Will all participants make the team?

No, travel soccer is competitive, and not all players will make the team.

What is a season versus a clinic?

Travel soccer includes a 10-month program focused on long-term player development and competition. Clinics such as the Innovative Player Clinic (IPC) may be offered as supplemental training during the winter.

What are the registration dates?

Travel soccer requires a registration in May for tryouts. Based upon the tryout, you will be notified if you are invited to join a team.

Approximately two weeks before the start of the season.


Age Limits/Groupings

Open to players U9 (born in 2016) through U19 (born in 2006)​.


Fees

There is a financial commitment to participate in travel soccer, including fees for registration, tournaments, and team events. Virginia Valor FC offers financial assistance for families who demonstrate financial need.

Equipment Requirements

FAQ

When do schedules come out?

Approximately two weeks before the start of the season.

Where are the games/practices held?

Fairfax County issues permits to SYA to use facilities in the Centreville/Clifton area. Typically a team will practice at the same facility each week with varying locations for weekend games.

When do I get notified about my child’s coach/practices/games?

Notification of schedules/locations/times will be sent out 1-2 weeks prior to the start of the season (as determined by when we receive permits).

How will I be notified?

Mobile app, email, etc.

What scholarship/financial aid information is available?

SYA offers scholarships to all SYA participants of all recreational sports who qualify under the Fairfax County Neighborhood and Community Services program. To learn more about SYA scholarships, click here.
