Southwestern Youth Association Coaches Spring 2021 Preseason Checklist


(1) Register as a Volunteer Coach during Registration AND complete the Background

MANDATORY for All Coaches (Head and Assistant) over 18 years old
When: As soon as possible but before the first game, then every season thereafter

(2) Read and complete 2020 NVYLL Coaches Code of Conduct and Coach Certification Survey

MANDATORY for All Coaches (Head and Assistant)
When: Each season prior to the first practice

(3) NVYLL - US Lacrosse Potomac Chapter Coaches Clinic - Season Kickoff

All Coaches (Head and Assistant) - One coach per team required
When: 
Sun, February 2021

Where: TBD…may be virtual

(4) US Lacrosse Level 1 Online Training

MANDATORY for Head Coaches, you can complete online or take a live course. It is OPTIONAL, but highly recommended for all other coaches. This course does not need to be retaken each year, once you have your certificate you are qualified for following seasons.
When: Before first game; need to be a US Lacrosse Member:

Cost: Only available and Free to US Lacrosse Members

(5) US Lacrosse Level 1/2/3 Instructional Clinic

Level 1 HIGHLY RECOMMENDED for Head Coaches, if you did not take Online course. It is OPTIONAL, but highly recommended for all other coaches.

Level 1 and Level 2 offered at Marymount Season Kickoff and by other member clubs in NVYLL
Cost: $75/$90 - reimbursement by  NVYLL first come first served until funds are expired.


NOTE: Per NVYLL rules, failure to take US Lacrosse Level 1 course (either online or clinic) will result in the parent Club being fined $50.00 per team.

(6) Positive Coaching Alliance (PCA) - Double Goal Coach: Coaching for Winning and Life Lessons

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED for All Coaches (Head and Assistant)
When/Where: Online Class or Local Clinic (Part of Level 1 Instructional Clinic)

(7) Concussion Awareness Training

All Coaches (Head and Assistant) REQUIRED

Is part of the SYA Volunteer registration and to be taken at the time you register

(10) SCAN Training – Alternative to SafeKids which is free to US LACROSSE MEMBERS

MANDATORY for ALL Coaches annually

(11) Fill out the SYA Specific 2021 NVYLL Exchange Roster prior to games

All games begin with coaches from the opposing teams exchanging a roster of players. This must be done or the game results in a forfeit. After the game, you must submit both your team and the opposing teams form to covid@syasports.org.
