    Responsibility of Coaches

    All field/gym closures follow Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) policies. Parents should contact their coach directly for cancellations due to inclement weather.

    Information Sources

    Coaches can obtain field status information through the following methods:

    • FCPS Channel 21: Available on Comcast, Cox, or Verizon.
    • FCPS Emergency Website: Visit FCPS Alerts.
    • Fairfax County Park Authority Field Status: Check the status at Fairfax County Parks.
    • Fairfax County Field Status Line: Call 703-324-5264.
    • SYA Soccer Field Cancellation Hotline: Call 703-644-8046.

    Field Status Check

    Please check the field status to see if it has rained in the last 48 hours. Field status decisions are generally made by 3:30 PM Monday through Friday and by 7:00 AM Saturday and Sunday.

    Fairfax Alerts

    Coaches and parents are encouraged to sign up for Fairfax Alerts, Fairfax County’s emergency alert system, which sends notifications to email accounts, cell phones, pagers, and wireless devices. This service will notify coaches and parents of school closings due to weather or other emergencies.

    Email Communication

    Coaches should also check their emails on the nights before game days for any updates.
