Important COVID-19 Reminders

As sent to parents, coaches, and volunteers

Dear SYA Parents, Coaches, Officials, Volunteers and Spectators,

As we enter into our Spring 2021 season for youth sports, I feel it important to remind everyone of some very specific protocols that we have put in place to ensure the safety of all our participants. SYA was able to resume some play last fall with very few COVID issues. The leadership of SYA put in place Return to Play guidelines that were developed based on CDC, Virginia and Fairfax County Health Department protocols and we are constantly updating them based on current recommendations. SYA receives permits to use fields and gyms from the Fairfax County Neighborhood and Community Services (NCS) office which requires that we follow their established safety protocols.

We have already witnessed several COVID cases this spring and are concerned that some folks may be letting their guard down. We want to ensure that we are able to continue to provide our children with the opportunity to participate in sports and enjoy the benefits derived from athletic activities. We must do this together. Please read the documents that we provided via our registration system and our website that outlines our protocols and safety procedures.

We ask you to follow these few simple rules so everyone can safely engage in sports this spring.

  1. If you or your child is not feeling well, please do not come to practices or games. This is the single most important thing you can remember.
  2. Please also respect the Coaches and other volunteers by wearing your mask over the mouth and nose at any time that you are within 10’ of someone else.
  3. Please maintain social distancing in the parking lots, on the sidelines, and to and from practices/games.
  4. Please ensure that each player/coach/official has their own equipment, their own water and their own sanitizer and to use that sanitizer frequently.

If you have tested positive for COVID or you or your child has been in close contact with someone who has tested positive for COVID, please notify your Coach immediately. Every Coach in SYA has been issued instructions on what to do if a case is reported.

Finally, to make certain that we have the correct information to support contact tracing, SYA has purchased TeamSnap, a mobile based application, for every single parent, coach, official and volunteer to use. The primary purpose of this app is for the required COVID Check-In that must be done at every FCPS school field/gym, FCPA Park field/gym and every privately owned site including our own SYA Sports Park. Please use this app and ask your Coach for assistance if you need it. Together, we can ensure that our children can safely enjoy the spring sports season without interruption. We thank you for your support.
