Players Corner

Welcome

This page is dedicated to our players. You are the reason the SYA Softball program exists. This game should not be played to satisfy the ego of a coach or to fulfill the aspirations of a parent. It should be played the way you want to play it and with the intensity and energy you want to give. We want you to get the most out of your fastpitch experience, so this page contains information that we hope will help you enjoy the game. Call or e-mail one of our Board members with comments or suggestions for this page. If you have a favorite fastpitch web site, let us know so we can share the information with others by putting it on our Softball Links page.

Pitching Fundamentals

It’s very hard to learn the basics of the windmill pitch. Check out our Pitching Fundamentals page for a good overview. Attend pitching clinics around the area. Some good ones are put on by Centreville and Chantilly High Schools and by the Northern Virginia Baseball Academy. If you want to be a very good pitcher, you will need to get private instruction from a well-regarded pitching instructor. Check with the Travel Coordinator and the Player Development Coordinator for the names of good instructors.

Hitting Fundamentals

Check out our Hitting Fundamentals page to learn how the fastpitch swing is different from a baseball swing. There are many good hitting clinics put on by the high schools and by Northern Virginia Baseball Academy.

Drills

Check out our drills pages. There are a lot of drills that a player can perform on her own. If you want to take your game to the next level, you must carve out time to practice on your own or with a friend. You can pitch rubberized softballs against a brick wall. You can buy a tee and hit whiffle balls against a fence. Read through these drills and get creative. Let us know about your favorite drills.
