More than three decades after an SYA baseball team posed with a Porsche for a magazine cover, we decided it was time for a new generation to take its turn.
Some SYA memories are too good not to recreate.
More than three decades ago, an SYA baseball team gathered around a red 1984 Porsche 944 for a photo that would appear on the cover of Gmünd: An International Magazine on Porsche.
Fast forward to 2026.
The Porsche is still here. SYA is still here. But this time, there’s a different team standing beside it. SYA Softball stepped in front of the camera to recreate the original cover.
A lot has changed at SYA since that first photo was taken. Generations of kids have come through our programs. Sports have grown and changed. Players have become parents, coaches and volunteers.
But seeing these two photos side by side is a pretty great reminder of what hasn’t changed: kids, teams and the memories that come from playing together. And this particular piece of SYA history still has a few mysteries. We don’t know the exact year the original Gmünd cover was published. We don’t know exactly who took the photograph – we believe it was a former SYA Mom who was an international photographer. And, we’d love to put names to the SYA baseball players standing beside that Porsche back in the day.
