Little League Baseball
SYA Travel Baseball
It is that time of the year again as the Spring Baseball season wraps up, the SYA Baseball Board of Directors would like to solicit your feedback on the coaches from this season, including the travel coaches. This evaluation form provides valuable feedback to the league on its selection process as well as to the coaches on what they have done right and where they need to improve.
Please take a few minutes while this information is still fresh in your mind from the season to provide this feedback. We hope that you take this opportunity to be heard. This may be anonymous feedback, if you choose not to provide your name.
Thanks to everyone who has submitted an evaluation. The league will be reviewing these over the the coming weeks, months and providing feedback as necessary. For those who have yet to submit an evaluation, time still remains for your input into your SYA Little League and SYA Travel programs.
SYA Travel Baseball’s mission is to develop the skills of advanced baseball players, both on and off the field, who live within the SYA boundaries and to help prepare these baseball players for an advanced level of play/competition and for life by teaching them a wide range of skills through the game of baseball. The managers selected for the Fall 2018/Spring 2019 season to guide these players are:
8u – In Cho
9u – Bob Woodruff
10u – Doug Neely
11u – Dwayne Nitz
12u – Aaron Rosenberg
These are the managers for the A/Prime team. Should registrations/tryouts and talent depth dictate a second team we will make every effort to put a team in place and find a manager.
SYA Travel Baseball tryouts for the Fall 2018 season for 8u through 12u teams will take place in June – details are below. This is a new year, so players age up from the spring season. See Travel Age Groups article for details. Click here to register (new registration system – select “SYA Mets Baseball – Travel Tryouts – Fall 2018” option) so we have an idea of who is coming and we can send out any updates. All players must live within the SYA Little League boundaries, but do not have to play with SYA Little League in the fall in order to be eligible. Tryouts will last approximately 1-2 hours depending on how many players show. Be sure players come prepared and bring water. Players only need to attend one of the appropriate sessions, the other would be optional.
8u – Complete
9u – Complete
10u – 2nd Tryout 6/28: Bull Run ES, 6pm
11u – Complete
12u – Complete
Out travel board is working with the coaches in making final selections and players are expected to get invites starting next week. We will announce the final teams by July 8 or so.
SYA Travel Baseball is adopting the age ranges being used by Little League Baseball to align our program with the players in SYA Little League, beginning with the new incoming Fall 2018 8u team.
This chart will be updated each year to reflect the how this is being implemented. For Fall 2019, 8/9u will follow this pattern, Fall 2020, 8,9, and 10u will align, and so on. For the Fall 2018 season, the Mets will only support teams up to 12u. SYA Babe Ruth is an option for older players.
Travel Baseball, depending on the league and tournament, are governed by various ruling bodies. While Little League recently announced it has adopted the USA Baseball Bat Standard, USSSA and AAU – the two popular ruling bodies – have different stances on composite bats. Click on the appropriate ruling body for their stance: USSSA, AAU (look for Bat Info).
For teams playing in NVTBL, the 8u-12u teams must use USA Baseball Bat Standard bats – have the USA label. This is the same as Little League.
