Little League Baseball
SYA Travel Baseball tryouts for the Spring 2018 season for 8u through 12u teams will take place in the coming weeks in November. Teams, once formed, will begin practices in January – generally once a week. Tryout times and locations are below. Player’s age is based on their age on April 30, 2018 – this is different than Little League. Register at the link below so we have an idea of who is coming and we can send out updates. Players must attend one of the tryouts for the level they are trying out for, including all current travel players. No current player is guaranteed a spot on the team as these tryouts are open to all SYA Little League boundary players.
Here is the tryout information, subject to change as current teams are participating in end of year tournaments:

SYA Travel Baseball’s mission is to develop the skills of advanced baseball players, both on and off the field, who live within the SYA boundaries and to help prepare these baseball players for an advanced level of play/competition and for life by teaching them a wide range of skills through the game of baseball. The managers selected for the Fall 2017/Spring 2018 season to guide these players are:
8u – Bob Woodruff
9u – Doug Neely
10u – Dwayne Nitz (Jim Poythress if there is a 2nd team)
11u – Scott Bowers
12u – Ben Lorigo (Cord Chase if there is a 2nd team)
These are the managers for the A/Prime team. Should registrations/tryouts and talent depth dictate a second team we will make every effort to put a team in place and find a manager.
Travel Baseball, depending on the league and tournament, are governed by various ruling bodies. While Little League recently announced a moratorium on composite bats, USSSA and AAU – the two popular ruling bodies – have different stances on composite bats. Click on the appropriate ruling body for their stance: USSSA, AAU (look for Bat Size).
For teams playing in NVTBL, here are their rules on bats: Age 8U – 14u divisions: Players shall NOT be limited by the 2015 High School Baseball Rules published by the NFHS regarding bat dimensions. JV, Varsity and ODL teams must follow BBCOR standards. All bats need to be BPF approved.
