SPRING COACHES MEETING SCHEDULED FOR THU MAR 9
Our spring 2017 rec coaches meeting will be held on Thu Mar 9 at Liberty MS cafeteria at 7:30pm. All head coaches should plan to attend. You will meet your coordinator and other coaches in the age group, hear about latest SYA Soccer news, and get your roster, equipment and practice schedule a the end of the meeting.
Our referee commissioner, Dave Kwieraga, will be at the meeting and will answer questions. Please submit referee/rules questions before the meeting to: firstname.lastname@example.org.
If you have never coached in any SYA sport before, plan on arriving to meeting a few minutes early to show a government issued photo ID that shows your DOB. All volunteers working with our youth must provide this as part of our background investigation. This needs to be completed before you can work with any players.
POSITIVE COACHING ALLIANCE WORKSHOP – SAT MAR 11
SYA is sponsoring a Positive Coaching Alliance workshop on Sat Mar 11 at Liberty MS cafeteria from 8am-10am. We would like all SYA Soccer coaches to attend this workshop if their schedule permits.
Positive Coaching Alliance is a national non-profit developing “Better Athletes, Better People” by working to provide all youth and high school athletes a positive, character-building youth sports experience. SYA wants to give you the tools so that YOU can be that positive coach that provides our players with a great sports experience.
Coaches play an incredibly influential role in the lives of athletes. Often players spend more time with their coaches than anyone else outside of the home environment. Therefore, it is important that school and youth sports organization leaders and administrators take care in setting standards of success for the coaching staff, especially when hiring 1st-time coaches.
While winning is important, it is more important that coaches teach life lessons through sports. We consider a coach that focuses on both of these outcomes to be a Double-Goal Coach®.
Coaches will model and teach players respect through Honoring the Game. Players focus on mastering their sport, which leads to higher effort, learning and improved athletic performance. Athletes also will also have more fun and feel good about what they are accomplishing because coaches are empowering them with positivity as they fill their emotional tanks.
YOU WILL BE GLAD YOU ATTENDED THIS WORKSHOP!!
PLEASE REGISTER BY FEB 15 SO THAT WE CAN ORDER ENOUGH BOOKS FOR ALL ATTENDEES (LINK BELOW):
