Cheerleading Information – Fall Sideline Cheerleading

Welcome to SYA Cheerleading!

SYA cheerleading is open to boys and girls ages 5-18 (age as of August 31). Cheer Team placements will be made in mid-August. We will try to honor special requests, however, to ensure the safety and development of our cheer teams, we cannot guarantee that boys and girls will follow their sibling’s football team. In addition, cheerleaders will only be placed on teams with siblings (i.e., cheerleading or football) that are within two years age difference and are at similar skill levels. To ensure that your cheerleader is placed on the proper cheer team, attendance at Spirit Camp is highly recommended.

Spirit Camp is open to EVERYONE! You do not have to be registered to cheer for the fall sideline season! Should you decide to register for our fall sideline program during Spirit Camp, SYA Cheer will waive the late registration fee for you!!!!

Fall Sideline Cheerleading begins the first week of August and ends in mid-November. Every cheer team will have a different practice day(s) throughout the week. Practice days, time, and location will be determined by SYA coaches.

Cheer Teams will be scheduled to:

  • Cheer for at least 8 regular season football games (August – October);
  • Cheer for playoff and championship games (November);
    • Glory Days Bowl;
    • SYA Night at Centreville High School;
    • Participate in special events such as: Sponsor and Fundraising Events
    • Centreville and Westfield High School Homecoming parades; and
    • Fairfax County Performance Day.

SYA Cheerleading is allowed to send three Cheer Teams to participate in Fairfax County Performance Day which is held in November. Performance Day is similar to a competition, but without the pressure of having to place or win. Cheer Teams from Prince William County, Fairfax County, and the surrounding local area also participate in this event. Performance Day is an opportunity for our cheerleaders to perform all of the skills that they have learned and developed throughout the season for family, friends, and other cheer programs. All Star Cheerleaders are also recognized at Performance Day and will receive a medal and certificate*. It is an exciting, fun-filled day, and a great way for us to show what SYA Cheerleading is all about!

*All Star Cheerleaders: One cheerleader is selected from each SYA Cheer Team to be their team’s All Star Cheerleader. Selections may be made by coaches or by team vote.
