The SYA Mets, the SYA Travel Baseball program, will have tryouts for the Fall 2019 season. Tryouts as noted below will take place for 8u through 12u teams – there will be a second tryout for each level, still TBD. The fall is the start of a new year so ages have changed, aligned with the table below in the Travel Age Groups article – look for the player month and year of birth to determine age.

The large range for 10u is based on our changing the age groups to align with Little League ages, so this coming year both 8u and 9u will align with the Little League ages. If we have enough players (i.e. pitchers, catchers) that tryout we will consider a second team at each level.

12u, Rosenberg – Saturday, 6/15, 4:30pm, SSP #1 and Sunday, 6/16, 11:30am, SSP #1
11u, Neely – Saturday, 6/15, 3:00pm, SSP #1 and Sunday, 6/16, 10am, SSP #1
10u, Palacios – Sunday, 6/16, 10am, ECL #5 and Sunday, 6/23, 4pm, ECL #5
9u, Cho – Saturday, 6/15, 6pm, Upper LLV and Sunday, 6/23, 3pm, Centre Ridge ES
8u, Guarino – Saturday, 6/15, 5:30pm, ECL #5 and Saturday, 6/22, 10:30am, Union Mill #2

Click here to register (registration system – select “SYA Mets Baseball – Travel Tryouts – Fall 2019” option) so we can send out any updates. All players must live within the SYA Little League boundaries, but do not have to play with SYA Little League in the fall in order to be eligible. Tryouts will last approximately 1-2 hours depending on how many players show. Be sure players come prepared, dressed for baseball, and bring water.

Players will be evaluated on all baseball skills such as hitting, throwing, fielding, base running, as well as behavior and coach-ability.

Some additional information to consider:

COMMITMENT: Being on a youth local travel team requires a commitment of both athlete and parent/family. The commitment to these teams is more than to a recreational team and carries higher expectations. Players selected for this travel team will start practice in early August and conclude about the first week of November. Players and parents must also be committed to skill development and be coachable. Parents must understand the commitment they have to supporting their team through volunteering for all team activities as the team is responsible for field conditions, area cleanup, snack shack if they decide to use, etc.

EXPECTATIONS: Those players selected for the team will be expected to attend all practices and games. Please consider these expectations before attending the tryout. It is reasonable to expect that players might miss a couple of events due to other family events/obligations but they will need to inform the coaching staff. Generally, as teams age, they will play more often as well as travel for tournaments in the MD, VA, DE area, however each team is different.

COST: The cost is not yet finalized but can be estimated to be in the $150-$250 up to $500 for the 11u/12u teams, depending on how much they decide to play in tournaments. Fees will be needed to cover costs related to tournaments, uniforms, insurance, and league fees. The coaches will be volunteering all of their time to this team. It would be expected that 8u teams would be close to $150 and gradually go up with the age. This would be in addition to the SYA fees of $65, which cover field and SYA fees.

FALL DATES: Practice are held twice during the week with a practice/games, usually on a Sunday. Exact week days will be determined at a later date.
